Monthly reports

The most popular tournaments of February

Posted Mar 09, 2018

February demonstrated a simple truth of esports industry — anything can happen and any tournament can become popular. Esports Charts proposes you to read our monthly report about the last month of Winter.

The list of the most popular broadcasts causes deja vu — it is quite similar to the last month’s top. LPL Spring is the Chinese LoL league, that is why it is so popular. LCK Spring is the Korean league — Chinese viewers are one of the most loyal fans of Korean professional teams. ESL One Katowice and SL i-League Invitational #4 are Dota 2 tournaments where Chinese teams played successfully against all other teams from the whole world. PandaTV PUBG League is the tournament based on the PandaTV — Chinese streaming platform. PUBG is extremely popular in Celestial Empire thus it gathers a lot of viewers for esports competitions. It clearly demonstrates us the successful future of Battle Royal esports scene.

Mysteries and unexpected moments are the worst business partners and the best friends of viewers. February surprised us in a huge way! Twitch Rivals PUBG Invitational took the first place — it is the tournament between famous streamers and players. This event gathered a lot of viewers. It even overtook SL i-League StarSeries Season 4 — CS:GO championship,  despite the presence of Natus Vincere in the finals. Six Invitational became the most unexpected guest of our blog — it took the third place. Ubisoft tried to make Rainbow Six Siege a full-fledged esports discipline for a long time and they apparently succeed.

The English-speaking top is slightly different from the last list. SL i-League StarSeries Season 4 disappeared, but it was replaced by the Overwatch League. It lost everyone's attention compare to the last month but it is still quite popular.

The Russian-speaking top is very different from any other. The heart of this region belongs to Dota 2 and CS:GO. Two main tournaments, ESL One Katowice and SL i-League StarSeries Season 4, were quite prestigious and both had CSI teams in finals, thus they gathered a lot of the Russian-speaking viewers.

The list of the most popular broadcasts on Twitch are pretty similar to the English-speaking top with the only exception — there are no Twitch Rivals PUBG Invitational. The explanation is simple — the official Twitch channel with casters was watched by ~ 45.000 people, but in total with all streamers there were a lot of spectators ~ 354.000 people.
